The Birthday Prayer

O God, I thank You for giving me another year of life.

I thank You for all the people who have remembered me today, and who have sent me cards, and letters and good wishes and presents; for everything which I have been enabled by You to do and to be in the past year.

I thank You for all the experiences of the past year; For times of success which will always be happy memories; For times of failure which reminded me of my own weakness and of my need of you; For times of joy when the sun was shining; For times of sorrow which drove me to You.

Forgive me, For the hours I have wasted; For the chances I failed to take; For the opportunities I missed in the past year. Forgive me that I have not made of life all that I might have made of it and could have made of it. And help me in the days which lie ahead to make this the best year yet, and in it to bring credit t myself, happiness to my loved ones, and joy to You.

This I ask for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

And my song for the day…

This is the day

This is the day

That the Lord has made

That the Lord has made

We will rejoice

We will rejoice

And be glad in it

And be glad in it

My celebration of life started emotionally, I woke up early remembering everything of my previous year. I remember the lost we had this year, I missed my grandmother. And I love her so much. Also the opportunities that have missed.

But on the other hand, it’s time to change. And today I’ll start it simple. No big celebration. No visitors. No gifts. No frills. Just me and my family and the most common native dishes. You might look at it as an ordinary day, but for me this is the most special and most memorable.

I got few greetings from my colleagues and relatives. My first greeter was Lewlew Egai, who greeted me a few days ago. Goldie and Tita Gie, who greeted me last night. My natal day started with a greeting from JM, followed by Sonia, Judith with my aunts, Charlotte and Makoy and lastly Thess. My well wishers became lesser and lesser every year. And I’m glad it did. I also got few gifts.

Still I am more than thankful, life’s been good to me.
